BaptismThe Sacrament of Holy Baptism is how membership in the church traditionally occurs. When a person is baptized, he or she is a full member of the Church. Baptism is membership in the Body of Christ. For some this happens in infancy; others are baptized as an adult. If you have been baptized in the Name of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, it is not necessary to be baptized a second time in order to become part of this branch of Christ's Church. |
ConfirmationConfirmation is for those who are baptized and wish to make a mature commitment to Christ, in his Body the Church, by reaffirming their baptismal vows for the first time. After participating in classes about the person, work and teaching of Jesus, and the history, tradition, and experience of The Episcopal Church, adults and high school youth are presented to the Bishop for Confirmation. Through this rite, one makes a public statement of his or her trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior. Such a committment should be seen as one among many steps along the path of following Christ over a lifetime; we never have all the answers, all at once; new vistas of faith, new insights in the midst of questioning, continue to be given us throughout our lives. Classes to prepare for Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation are normally offered in the fall and spring of each year. Individual preparation is possible. The timing of these classes is determined by the date for the Annual Visitation of the Bishop of the Diocese. For more information please contact the Parish Office at 901 754-7282. WeddingsWe welcome your interest in beginning your life as husband and wife at our church. After reading the Wedding Policy booklet below, please call Father Sturni at the office with your questions, 754-7282. Please also call the Church Office for general information. |
FuneralsWhen a member of the church dies, family is urged to call the Rector of St. George’s, or one of the other clergy, so he/she might offer prayer and assure the family of the support of the congregation. If the time comes to talk about a service here, the clergy will be ready to help with all aspects of the planning, as the family may wish.
Please do not make arrangements with a funeral home about the service itself without consulting the clergy. This will ensure that all planning can be coordinated with the priest and others involved in the worship ministries of the church.
Whatever time a meeting might be convenient for the family in this difficult time will be accommodated by the clergy. As desired, the clergy can meet with you at your home, or at the funeral director’s office, or at the church.
In order that we may care intentionally for you and your loved ones at the time of death, we offer below guidelines and choices that might be made in regard to the service.
Please contact the one of the clergy at St. George’s church office: 754-7282 / or the Rector’s cell, 901 201-0619, at any time, with any questions.
